We all love a day at the seaside… but who says you have to head to the coast? Springing up all across the capital are some fantastic urban beaches – so pack the bucket, spade and suntan lotion and bag yourself a prime position at these locations.
Royal Victoria Beach
Even though you’re prohibited from swimming, there’s more than 200 tonnes of sand adorned with deck chairs – which means plenty of room to build sandcastles and relax in the sunshine. London’s biggest urban beach is also next to the Emirates Airline Cable Car and, along with plenty of family friendly activities, there’s lots to keep the kids entertained.

What’s not to love about Beach East at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park? Not only is there plenty of sand to sink your toes into, but the kids are going to go wild for the enormous paddling pool and fun fair. And, with live performances, competitions and sports events – a fun day out is guaranteed for the whole family.

Fancy a stroll amongst 100 palm trees along the beachfront after you’ve had a browse round the shops? The Beach at Brent Cross shopping centre recreates the perfect family seaside trip with Punch & Judy shows, fish and chips stalls and a marvellous fun fair with teacup rides and rollercoasters; not to mention the Pimms for the parents and a paddling pool to cool weary feet.

Southbank’s Copacabana Beach
This beach opposite the South Bank Centre returns for another year but this time, to celebrate the Rio Olympic games, its 85 tonnes of sand is a tribute to Rio’s most famous beach. Expect lots of Brazilian vibes,spicy chicken and BBQ food from the yellow tram, plus cocktails and beach games.
