What with back-to-school prep and the last few weeks of the summer holidays just flying by, MTM’s monthly round-up comes a little late but by the same token, I hope some of our photographs will keep autumn at bay and in the mindset of sunnier times (well here in the UK at least).
At the beginning of the school break, I wondered how I was going to manage for the next six weeks entertaining Monkey. I am amazed at how quickly the weeks came and went. But then again, we managed to do a fair bit during August…
Firstly, Monkey and I had a great day besides the seaside, eating ice cream and rock, playing mini golf and riding a big Ferris wheel when we went to Bournemouth in Dorset. The weather was glorious and it was so nice to be able to have some alone time with him, as I am aware all too late of how much time his little brother demands of me.
And after finalising details for our Simpson Travel holiday to Zakynthos some time ago, we were all very much looking forward to having some family time in Greece. Staying in Periyali Villas, we had the best of both worlds – a self-catering villa as well as a communal pool and childcare facilities. Zakynthos itself is a beautiful island, with a plethora of stunning sandy beaches, coves and crystal blue waters and we not only dined well in the family-friendly tavernas but also managed to fit in, around the pool time, turtle spotting, snorkelling and beach exploring. A week is never enough, but we felt fortunate to be given the opportunity to experience this Greek paradise and get a chance to relax.
Once back in the UK, our bags were barely unpacked before we had to load up the car and head off on a weekend in Canterbury in Kent. As guests of Visit Kent, we had been invited to go along to BOing, a family-friendly festival that celebrates the arts, music and film. It was a jampacked few days because not only did we take part in the festival’s various events and workshops, but we also managed to fit in a river tour in Canterbury learning about myths and legends. We even visited our favourite beach in Whitstable for a fish and chip supper, which was the perfect way to end our trip in Kent.
Finally, I can’t sign off without saying a humongous thank you to all my readers and supporters because I’ve just discovered that My Travel Monkey has been named Best Family Travel Blog in the Flight Centre Awards. I truly didn’t expect to win, as I was up against some huge contenders. In fact, I still don’t know who nominated me in the first instance. Whoever you are, thanks!
And, while I didn’t start blogging to win any awards, I’m not going to lie – it is rather lovely to have all my hard work recognised and hopefully, will continue to spur me on to keep working hard and making this blog as successful as it can possibly be.
Thank you all again – and now that the summer is over (boooo!), I am now looking to plan our next adventures in the coming months – and we have some amazing ones in the pipeline. I, will, of course, let you know in due course what we will be getting up to.
Wishing you all a fabulous September!
