Living so close to central London means that staying overnight in the capital is a treat. If I do have to stop over, it’s often camped on a friend’s sofa, which is a brilliant option for me to have, but rarely do I get to stay in a hotel or apartment.
Staying at Citybase Apartments in London
I often have a lot of people asking me where best to stay when they visit London, as it can be expensive to go to hotels, and I was intrigued to see if the Lamington Apartments would match up to expectations.
The Lamington Apartments are based in Hammersmith in west London and they have a wide range of service, luxury London apartments for short and long-term rentals. Not only was the booking process simple, but the people at Lamington were also helpful when we told them we couldn’t check-in until later that evening. This wasn’t a problem, even though their offices would be shut, instead, we picked the keys up from a local shop a few metres from the apartment itself.
I was expecting a block of high-rise new build flats, so was pleasantly surprised to see our accommodation was a ground floor flat in a Victorian townhouse – I always prefer properties with character.
The Living Space of our Lamington Apartment
There was no fuss in unlocking the main door to the property or to the apartment itself, which was a relief and, after dumping our bags in the hallway, we made our way into the open plan living room consisting of a small modern kitchen and dining area by the huge bay window looking out onto the street.
The living room had plenty of room for dining as well as two large plush sofas for reclining and a flat-screen TV. The wi-fi signal was also strong and worked without any problems.
The kitchen was well-equipped with a cooker, microwave, washing machine and dishwasher as well as utensils and crockery. It was also a nice touch for Lamington to provide not only tea and coffee but snacks, cereal and milk in the fridge. We were both starving, so having a bag of crisps and a cup of tea was the perfect tonic – before we got stuck into the harder stuff!
Moving away from the living area and down the corridor, we passed a decent sized bathroom fitted with a shower and bath, and several toiletries, which was a nice addition to the fluffy white towels provided in both bedrooms.
The two bedrooms had plenty of storage, comfortable double beds – with chocolates on the pillows – as well as large windows overlooking the outdoor area. We didn’t have access to it, but no matter, as we were only spending the night.
I slept very well and it was surprisingly quiet on the street – at one point I forgot I was in the city. Meanwhile, it was a cold, wintry night and was very cosy inside the apartment as the central heating was on and there was no need for us to adjust the temperature.
Location of Lamington Apartments
Hammersmith tube station serves the District, Circle and Hammersmith & City lines, so the whole of London and its attractions are easily accessible. The apartment is only around an eight-minute walk from the station, which means it’s a fantastic base for visitors to explore the capital.
If you’re looking for shops, amenities and plenty of restaurants and bars – then there is no need to venture far as Hammersmith has all of these in abundance and the added bonus is, it’s right next to the River Thames – which is full of riverside hangouts and pubs. Shepherds Bush Empire, Hammersmith Apollo and Lyric Theatre are also about 10 minutes’ walk away.
Verdict of Citybase Apartments
We had a pleasant stay in our Lamington apartment and enjoyed relaxing in our spacious surroundings. It was well-equipped, comfortable and most importantly, clean. Meanwhile, the location was superb.
The accommodation would be perfect for a small family or a small group of friends visiting London and not only do you have the feel of a hotel – with the fresh towels, toiletries and information booklet about the flat and the surrounding area – but you also have the freedom that comes with having your own space. Being able to come and go as you please, especially if you have children, is ideal. Plus with prices starting at a reasonable £80 per night, with children under 2, free, it’s well worth considering as an alternative to more expensive hotels.
