I love Christmas. Not so much the running around, the preparation, the present buying or the cooking. No – not those bits… But more the spending time with loved ones, eating, drinking and watching Monkey giddy with excitement over Santa’s deliveries. That’s what’s magical about this annual tradition.
Because my husband’s family lives in the North of England, it has meant over the years that we’ve had to split our time driving up the motorway, which, let’s be honest, isn’t conducive to getting into the festive spirit – particularly when stuck in traffic on the M6. More and more, we’ve been discussing the possibility of getting away from it all and just spending Christmas by ourselves. Just for a few days at least…
As MTM readers know, we have a penchant for being near the seaside and the idea of taking a long, brisk walk along a beach before getting back into a warm, cosy cottage for Christmas dinner is appealing. And this Christmas it’s finally happening. After looking for cottages at Christmas, we finally settled on one near the seaside in Camber Sands – and the not only our my folks going, but my sister and her family, too. And I can’t wait!
Plus after so much research, I have also narrowed down some other inspiration cottages for Christmas that have been earmarked for next time. But having discovered these wonderful and unique seaside luxury properties from Original Cottages, this dream could soon become your reality, too.
Inspirational Cottages For Christmas
Lindos, Looe in Cornwall
Breathtaking views from a sundeck and all the communal areas of this Victorian house makes this a breathtaking property. Located in the pretty village of Looe, Lindos sleeps up to six people in three bedrooms, but it is the stylish dining and living room, which leads out onto the stunning deck, that is the real draw. Imagine enjoying a Christmas tipple watching the sunset? Yes, please! Meanwhile, a short walk along the road takes you into the centre of town where you can wander through the quaint streets or along the harbour.
Spindrift, Croyde in Devon
Right on the water’s edge, and with Croyde’s sandy beach only 50 metres away, Spindrift gives occupants a real beach retreat. French doors open onto a small balcony and quick access via an external staircase leading to a huge terrace below – both with fabulous panoramic ocean views. With three large immaculate bedrooms and an open plan living space, spending a family Christmas here would be wonderful, what with the local village only a short walk away, too.
Little Hampton, Kent
This spacious, detached bungalow has direct access to the beach at Herne Bay – a favourite coastal area of ours. The property is light, bright and airy throughout and has three well-sized bedrooms that can sleep up to five people. And with stunning sea views, as well as being close to shops and restaurants, Little Hampton would make an ideal retreat at Christmas – or any time of the year.
Wee Retreat, Sheringham in Norfolk
If you’re looking for a unique property then the Wee Retreat – a converted traditional Victorian toilet block – really is the bee’s knees. Not only have the owners made this a comfortable and contemporary place to stay, sleeping up to four people with all the mod cons, but its outstanding position means the views out to the North Sea and Sheringham beach are superb. Just wow.
Garth, Pembrokeshire, Wales
With a 180-degree view of the sea, National Parks coastline and the Gower Peninsula close by, Garth is a stunning five-bedroomed house which is not only super-modern but has open-plan accommodation which has breathtaking views of Saundersfoot and its gorgeous sandy beaches. Add to this huge property a sun lounge, sunroom and garden – families would really have a special time here – particularly during the festive season.
