kids’ travel play trayIf, like me, you’re clueless when it comes to arts and crafts – and I mean really useless – then perhaps you struggle to come up with ideas on how to entertain the kids on long car journeys? I know I do, and once I’ve exhausted all the car games – and even then this can only be played with older children who talk – and you want them to have a break from the tablet screen, what then? As much as I would love to cut up bits of string and create easy and entertaining toys, I’ll hold my hands up and admit, I just don’t have the patience or the aptitude. I also don’t have tons of cash to waste on buying things that will be dumped on the car floor by my toddler within two seconds. So let me reveal to you some amazing and brilliant car activities for toddlers and young kids which will make your road trips much easier – and won’t break the bank, either.
Brilliant Car Activities For Toddlers
Kids’ Travel Play Tray (£21.99)
So before you can dispense with the games and car activities for toddlers, this brilliant piece of kit means that your toddler will have their very own tray station and organiser. Not only does it double up as a small desk for drawing, playing games and eating – but has handy pockets for various items such as crayons, pens, cards, snacks and water bottles – and even space to rest a tablet. Easily wipeable and able to fold up into a bag, this kids’ travel play tray is so handy.
Playfoam (From £13.36)
Not only does the Playfoam Go! come in a handy travel-sized case which has nine compartments in which to store your toddler’s amazing creations but the non-toxic formula makes this great for safe, creative and sensory play. It doesn’t stick to hands, clothes or your car, just to itself. What’s even better is Playfoam never dries out so your toddler can keep on squishing and squashing and using the shape moulds.
Magic Colouring Books (£5.99)
From dinosaurs and farm animals to magical kingdoms and jungles, these magic colouring books are ingenious fun car activities for toddlers and the great thing? Absolutely no mess! Just use the water pen to scribble over the pictures and they’ll magically appear in colour. Once dry, they can be used again and again.
Lacing shapes (From £3.00)
Toddlers like nothing better than finding something to occupy their fingers – and these transport lacing shapes will not only keep them absorbed for a while but fine-tune their motor skills and help with dexterity. Made from durable, wipe clean plastic, they can be used again and again.
Road Tape (£7.77)
Whoever came up with the idea of road tape needs to be congratulated. Take a roll of it anywhere with you be it in the car, house, aeroplane and quickly and efficiently construct your own race track. All you need is a few toy cars and flat surfaces like a window – and away you go! Brilliant piece of kit and should be a staple on road trips with toddlers.
Buckle Toy (£17.95)
Car activities with toddlers mean you need to be able to pack items that are small and compact and a buckle toy is no exception. There are many on the market, but I particularly like this Buckle Toy Bizzy – its bright colours, six child-friendly buckles, as well as zip pockets and peek-a-boo flaps are great for little hands. It also helps toddlers develop fine motor skills, cognitive skills, hand-eye coordination and problem-solving.
