I’ve written many times how family-friendly San Sebastián is (read here the reasons why). From playgrounds to the attractions, as well as welcoming pintxos bars and restaurants (read here for the best places to eat in San Sebastián, more and more families are realising that this foodie paradise in the Basque region of Spain is a great destination for a break with kids (read here for an overview of a weekend break). Not only are there three beautiful sandy beaches within walking distance of one another  La Concha, Zurriola and Ondarreta, but it’s an area of cultural significance, as well as architectural heritage.

Family-Friendly Accommodation In San Sebastián

The one thing I’ve been asked on many occasions by readers is where we stayed – we opted for an apartment in the Old Town, which was perfect for us. We were able to wander by foot to all the hotspots and beaches and felt close to the action.

I’ve decided to round up some of the best family-friendly accommodation in San Sebastián  – so you can get a head start when planning a family trip to San Sebastián and a good idea of the type of accommodation on offer for families with children. So whatever budget you have, whether you’re looking for a hotel or a self-catering apartment, here are some fantastic family-friendly accommodation in San Sebastián to consider.

Coeur Apartment

We stayed in the Coeur Apartment – we loved the location in the old quarter of San Sebastián. Not only was it close by to several pintxos bars, but the address, Agosto Street, has actually been named as one of the best urban streets in Europe. Okay, so there isn’t a lift, but we left our buggy downstairs and managed well fine with the stairs. Inside, the interiors are modern and fresh, and believe or not, even with the street noise, we found it to be relatively quiet. Ample room for a family of four – as well as a cot and highchair provided, we loved our San Sebastián base.

Hotel Niza

We dined in Hotel Niza’s Narru Restaurant and Monkey even enjoyed the culinary feast prepared by chef Iñigo Peña. What struck us was Hotel Niza’s prime spot facing La Concha Bay – and with its bright, airy room with marvellous views, as well as interconnecting rooms for families, this is a great choice for a modern hotel in a great San Sebastian location.

Part of the Barceló hotel group, the Costa Vasca is another one of their hotels that exudes minimalist elegance – think crisp white linen and modern touches.
