Monday Escapes 10 My Travel MonkeyBack at the beginning of the month the lovely Cathy from Mummy Travels tagged me in a ’11 Things… You Didn’t Know About Me’ and I thought it would be a fun way to kick of this week’s Monday Escapes. So here are the answers to her questions…

What’s your most unexpected holiday essential?

I don’t really have anything ‘unexpected’. But I recently discovered a little device called Zap-it which relieves mosquito bites. It really is a good piece of kit and works! Normally, bites balloon on me and become very painful.

If you could go anywhere in the world tomorrow, where would it be (and why)?

Ravello in Italy. We were planning on celebrating our wedding anniversary there last year, but it just didn’t happen. It’s where we got married and it’s a pretty little town that has the most stunning views over the Amalfi Coast and the most amazing restaurants.

If you had the cash, would you splurge on flying business class or save for the destination?

Save for the destination. I’m a bit tight like that…

Top destination on your bucket list?

I have loads but I already know what our next ‘big’ trip will be in the next couple of years… New England – we really want to do a road trip across this part of America. It’s somewhere I am dying to explore.

Favourite holiday destination so far?

That’s a tough one… I couldn’t possible decide because they have all been so different. Our recent trip to Thailand was pretty special, though.

Tent or villa?

Definitely a villa. I am not a camping person at all.

Favourite holiday reading?

I used to be such a book-worm but since having Monkey – my reading has taken a back seat… I like a good meaty novel – anything from fantasy to crime. I’m not a great lover of romance novels. They’re not really my thing.

What’s the biggest risk you’ve taken?

I’ve taken lots of little, calculated risks over the years but nothing huge. I suppose you could say deciding to carry on travelling on my own when my group of friends went their separate ways. I could have quite easily headed back to the UK. As some of you know, I met my husband on that trip – and when I left my pals, I moved in with him and his friends (who I hardly knew!) when we were in Sydney, Australia. This cemented my friendship with them all and, of course, the rest is history…

In a mobile blackspot, what would you most miss doing on your phone?

Oh gosh… where do I start? The main one would be WhatsApp so I can keep in touch with my friends. Then my emails and then Instagram. So basically all of social media… although sometimes it’s actually nice to be in a black spot – it makes you turn off your phone and not worry about all that stuff.

What superpower would you choose?

Teleportation. Is that an actual superpower? I mean imagine wanting to sip a cocktail on Miami Beach and then whoosh… you’re there.

Best thing to come out of your blog (so far)

Meeting some wonderful people – some of whom have actually become good friends. I’ve been overwhelmed by the generosity of bloggers and their support. It’s such a giving community and I am glad to be part of it.Monday Escapes 11 Things You Didn't Know About Me My Travel Monkey
